Job Description

TENURE-TRACK FACULTY POSITION, NEW JERSEY INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY. New Jersey Institute of Technology has launched a major faculty hiring initiative to support the university’s mission-critical strategic research and technological innovation areas. These new positions are targeted to not only leverage and complement existing faculty strengths, but more importantly, to lead NJIT into new frontiers of research and discovery. In the first phase of this initiative, the Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering seeks outstanding candidates to apply for a tenure/tenure-track assistant/associate/full professor faculty position starting in August, 2012. Consideration will be given to higher rank applicants with appropriate levels of academic excellence and demonstrated research accomplishment.

Specific areas of interest include but are not limited to:

Assistant or Associate or Professor in Resilient Infrastructure Systems (with or without Tenure)<./P>

The nation’s infrastructure faces some very real problems that threaten our way of life. Raising the grades on our infrastructure will require that we seek and adopt a wide range of inter- and multi-disciplinary solutions. The American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) Report Card for America’s Infrastructure gave our infrastructures a D grade and estimates $2.2 trillion needed over the next several years for maintenance. The addition of this position will enhance NJIT’s presence in the vital area of sustainable and resilient infrastructure systems. The Resilient Infrastructure Systems position will strengthen selected areas of sustainable design and materials selection, energy efficient design and construction, green building design and operation, simulation technologies that model societal interaction with infrastructure systems, linkage of material/structural state data with life-cycle models and inclusion of social science and economic models in infrastructure design and construction processes. Registration as a Professional Engineer with several years experience in infrastructure systems is preferred. Reference posting 0600797. Job name “CEE12-3”

Rank and salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. Interested applicants should submit curriculum vitae, a statement of research and teaching goals, and the names and contact information of three references. NJIT is dedicated to recruiting and retaining women and underrepresented minority candidates to help the university achieve its mission of education, research, economic development, and service. New Jersey Institute of Technology is an affirmative action/equal opportunity employer.
